Hey ,

It’s that time again and there were lots of jobs this week.

But first, a message from this week’s sponsor, Authory.

You may have been seeing Authory around more lately. In short, they make it easy to curate all your work samples in one place. I made an Authory portfolio this week and liked how the platform finds all your work from a publication/website after pasting a single article. No scouring sites to find the links to all your bylines.

Anyhoo, here’s what they have to say…

Finally, a portfolio that auto-updates and backs up your work! Authory creates a beautiful, self-updating portfolio for you that showcases your writing and keeps your work safe, even if a website shuts down. Join 1,000s of freelance writers and journalists already using Authory to impress clients and employers.

Q & A

Q: How do you build a stable base of recurring income as a freelance writer?

A: What’s really helped me is:

1. Focusing on a primary service offering that clients need every month (e.g. blogs, social media posts, emails)

2. Targeting clients with well-established strategies/systems that need more than I can provide each month

I used to write a lot of internal branding guides, landing pages, and core website pages. The problem was, my clients were one-and-done for the most part. They didn’t need those things on an ongoing basis so I constantly had to replace them.

Once I focused primarily on a service clients need on a recurring basis, things got a whole lot easier.

That said, a hybrid model can work well if you help clients with one-off projects but also sell them on recurring offerings. Or, if you really love something that’s a one-off, that can work but you need a solid marketing system to keep the leads coming.

That’s a wrap!

Good luck applying and I’ll see ya next Friday,

Jessica at ATFW
