Q & A on Freelance Writing
Q: What should freelance writers post on LinkedIn to build their brands and attract clients?
A: Here are some of the post types that have worked well for me over the years (and a few examples):
Demonstrate how you work through a story
Highlight your values directly or through a story
Share your opinions on work-related topics
Share an “inside” joke
Talk about important news, trends, developments
Share case studies/results
Share your work
Share client testimonials
Share things you learn
Share daily happenings related to work

Breaking News: Google Updates Reputation Abuse Policy
Google announced a new update this week here. The main takeaway is:
“We're making it clear that using third-party content on a site in an attempt to exploit the site's ranking signals is a violation of this policy — regardless of whether there is first-party involvement or oversight of the content.”
From what I’ve heard and seen, this practice has become somewhat common as Google has been more lenient about it in the past. The new policy can mean penalizations leading to traffic dropoffs and layoffs of content production teams.
As a freelance writer who wants long-lasting client relationships, I’d recommend reading through the policy update so you can identify when clients are operating in a way that puts them and you at risk.
Resource Spotlight: The Inkwell
Have you heard of the Inkwell by Liz Heflin yet? It’s a community for freelance writers with free and paid options. I’ve been a member since it started and like to hop into different conversations in the app. She also provides an immense amount of value for $6 per month including monthly office hours, an “Ask Her Anything” thread, and more.
That’s a wrap!
Good luck applying and I’ll see ya next Friday,
Jessica at ATFW
