Q & A From ATFW Subscribers
Q: Ever have a client reach out, seem interested, and then disappear? Is that common?
A: It does happen — and for a variety of reasons. For example:
They may be thinking about hiring but are still getting their stuff together.
They could’ve had a personal emergency that pulled them away from the project.
The project could’ve fallen through for another reason.
They might’ve run into something they aren't sure is a fit (e.g. pricing, niche, communication style, etc.)
Sometimes they pop up back, sometimes not. Would it be nice if all clients communicated exactly what was going on? Yes. But that doesn’t always happen.
My approach is to just keep planting seeds and not get too hung up on any single one. Eventually, the right ones will start to come to harvest regularly. This year, I had someone request a quote in February, disappear after I sent pricing, and then come back ready for business in June. You just never know!
You can send a follow-up message to see if they’re still interested/try to close the loop. But I don’t recommend spending too much time or energy trying to hunt down any one person and force it.

Expert spotlight: Publicist Lydia Bagarozza on Personal Branding
Lydia Bagarozza is a publicist and one of the co-founders of Visibility on Purpose — a media training school that helps authors and business owners gain media attention through TV, podcasts, and top-tier digital magazines.
Jessica: For those who aren’t sure where to start with personal branding, what do you recommend?
Lydia: When you’re creating a personal brand, you want to make sure that you have all of your brand assets in place. This means having:
A professional website
Professional social accounts
Headshots or brand pictures (yes, go get those done and thank me later!)
From there, write down a list of topics that you want to talk about on a larger scale. If you love beauty, for example, think about what exactly you like about beauty. Is it that you like sustainable beauty products and want to share the latest eco-conscious beauty trends? Do you also want to talk about carbon emissions and the environment? Write down a healthy list of 5 – 10 topics.
That’s a wrap for this week!
Thanks for reading, good luck applying, and I’ll see ya next Friday,
Jessica at ATFW
