Q & A on Freelance Writing

Q: Would you undergo a drug test for a remote freelance writing role?

A: Well, this week’s job search was interesting.

I came across a strange requirement…drug testing for freelance writers.

While clients can technically request that, it’s highly unusual and could potentially contribute to a freelancer being deemed misclassified if it’s part of a broader pattern of control and direction. So I’ve gotta ask…

I’d personally skip a remote freelance writing role that required a drug test — not because I’m concerned about passing it, but because I find it to be a hassle and an overstep. The request isn’t something my ideal client would request and suggests a lopsided dynamic I avoid. But I’d love to hear your thoughts! You can leave a comment after voting above or reply.

⚡Weekly Challenge to Grow Your Freelance Biz⚡

Reach out to a client (preferably at a moment when they’re happy with your work) and ask them for a recommendation on LinkedIn.

LinkedIn recommendations offer the bonus of being more verifiable than self-published testimonials.

A person with a LinkedIn account has to leave it through their account which adds credibility.

Once published, you can share it on your website, social channels, or anywhere else!

Are you looking for help building your personal brand? Christine Gomolka, founder of Paid Copywriter, is working on a program for service-based solopreneurs and wants to hear from you! Fill out her short survey to help her tailor the upcoming program to best serve current needs in the market.

That’s a wrap!

Good luck applying and I’ll see ya next Friday,

Jessica at ATFW

Premium Ghostwriting Academy

Struggling to make more than $5k/month as a writer?

Stop “freelance writing.”

Here’s the truth about why you aren’t consistently landing high-paying clients:

❌ You’re writing “anything” for “anyone,” not focusing on 1 offer.
❌ You’re wasting hours on freelancer sites, not “creating” your own clients.
❌ You’re doing low-paying work (like blog posts), not delivering outcomes.
