What’s new this week?
I recently chatted with Treasa Edmond on her podcast, Boss Responses, about different aspects of freelance writing.
We recorded several short episodes, including one on burnout.
I’ve, unfortunately, worked myself to the point of burnout a few times over my 11-year career as a freelance writer.
It’s a place where you literally can’t write anything else that sounds right.
The words stop wording.
It can be a scary place when your livelihood is writing.
But it’s taught me the importance of heeding the early warning signs and building prevention steps into my systems.
If it’s something you’ve struggled with, too, feel free to have a listen:
Episode 47: Avoiding burnout by heeding the warning signs (10:59)
Q & A on freelance writing
Q: How much lead time should I request on freelance writing projects?
A: It really depends on your current availability, how long a project will take you, and the amount of buffer time you want. For example, if you’re booked out for two weeks and get a project offer that will take you approximately three work days, I’d recommend requesting a due date at least three weeks out.
But how much notice do most writers need? Here’s what 565 said…
A word from our partner…
Want something engaging to do after work that doesn’t involve looking at screens? With Audible, you can listen to thousands of audiobooks, podcasts, and documentaries as you drive, work out, do chores, etc. Try it free for 30 days.
A peek behind the scenes…
It’s been a hectic week over here. My Grandpa turned 90 (yes 90!) this week so my family all met up in Vegas for a big celebration. And celebrate we did. But I made it back in time to do some writing and, of course, send this newsletter =).
That was my last big trip of the summer. Now it’s time to shift into a more work-focused mode for a few months. And I can’t say I’m mad about it. I like leaning more into life offline in certain seasons and more into work online in others. How about you?
Loved the sky ceiling
The Sphere is cool!
That’s a wrap!
Thanks for reading, good luck applying, and I’ll see ya next Friday,
Jessica at ATFW
