Tip of the week: LinkedIn profile performance tracking
An optimized LinkedIn profile drives freelance writing clients to you.
But how do you know if yours is heading in the right direction?
Here are 4 metrics you can track (without paying for LinkedIn Premium or using any other tool):
Profile views each week: Go to your LI profile page, scroll down to “Analytics,” click on profile views, hover over the dots on the chart to see your performance broken down by week.
Search appearances each week: Go to your LI profile page, scroll down to “Analytics,” click on search appearances, and see how many you’ve had for the given week.
Job titles you were found for: While on the search appearances page, look under the section for the top job titles you were found for. They should align with the main service you’re offering such as “freelance writer” or “(enter your niche) copywriter.”
Inbound leads: Track the number of inbound leads you get through LinkedIn.
As you make changes to your profile, these four metrics can help you gauge the impact. Need help? Download this free tracking template.
Ever come across an unpaid test during a freelance job application?
While an unpaid writing test can remove the risk for a client, what about your risk? Here are three reasons to pause before jumping into that free trial.
Paid writing tests for freelance writers are pretty standard so a request for a “free trial” is a red flag. It’s not respectful of your time at best and a scam at worst.
If you start off a working relationship by giving away your writing, you set a precedent that can be problematic.
It simply is not a necessary or cost-effective use of your working hours (which we all want to make the most of).
That's a wrap!
Thanks for reading, good luck pitching, and we’ll see ya next Friday.
